What do you use?
Hi all,
Thought i'd start this off so here goes........What software do you use? I'm still very new to all of this and still trying to fathom out whats what so i'm using easy to understand and free software. You all must know of Registax4 which i use and Gimp 2.2. I find Gimp to be one of the easiest and best editing software for free that i could find but if anyone knows of something even better and free(tight me..lol) let us now. I have some images that i have taken on my blog(link at bottom) all done through Registax and Gimp. Have a nose and please be gentle, as i've said before, haven't got a clue about computers and never done a blog before. |

nice software
Hi Astrogirl,
there is a very easy and nice looking software, not for astrophotography, but for imaging the solar system and main constelations. It is just for navigation, it makes you feel you are piloting a spacecraft. It is fun and real in terms of proportions etc. and is free. It is called Celestia, you can dowload it from the net and take a good ride. It recreates th planets and their orbits in real time (you can also speed it) I think it is cool. Nice to meet you. What I use
I use MaximDL to capture longer exposure images with the SBIG STL-11000XM CCD camera. I use Streampix when capturing AVIs from the Lumenera camera for stacking with Registax. I also use TheSky6 for telescope pointing. FocusMax for fine focusing the Precision Digital Focuser from Finger Lakes Instruments. For automation I have used ACP and CCD AutoPilot. CCDware makes a number of other useful applications for astro imagers. The SpaceSpot Observatory will have a specific suite of application we use once we start the integration. It is looking like ACP will be our main control software since it has a web-based interface. This is a requirement as we intent to donate observing time on it to high-school students around the world.
