Help please!

I am an earthbound photographer as a rule but have recently purchased a T2 adapter and mount so that I may connect my Nikon D 100 to my 114mm Skywatcher. It has focal length of 500mm.

The problem that I'm having is that I can only focus on an object such as the moon if I use the 2 x Barlow, otherwise the adapter just won't rack up or down enough for me to pull anything into focus. This really wasn't what I was expecting.

I sense that the answer to this dilema is to invest in something like a bigger telescope, a 6" maybe but astrophotography isn't my main hobby and I don't want to have to spend anymore money.

Your advice would be appreciated,

With thanks, an Astrophotography Virgin.

I bleieve that the problem is because Nikon gets too close to the secondary mirror. You could fix that with an extension tube that you can purchase almost anywhere since this is a problem for many refrectors and short focal lenght telescopes.
