Nice to see you getting to take some images Harry. A couple of suggestions. First, tone down the brightness if you can. If your camera allows for manual settings choose a fast shutter speed and/or a large f/stop number. If your camera does not allow manual settings, you can hold a pair of sunglasses over the lens which will keep the moon's brightness in check (if you have a regular size lens, you can use neutral density filters). Second, once you get the brightness toned down, try taking multiple images and stacking them with a free program like Registax. It will bring out the detail in the moon and it won't look all washed out. Also, it looks like you went pretty heavy on the digital zoom. Your camera may not give you many options in this regard but I would say definitely stay away from digital zoom if you can. Finally, make sure your image mode is set to fine and if there is a setting for JPEG compression/quality set it to the highest quality mode possible. The files will be bigger, but your images will be much better as well.

Here's an image of the Moon taken last night at LightBuckets. This is a mosaic of 6 images stitched together. You can rent the LightBuckets scopes to image any object in the sky.
