Question About Odd Image
Hello! We were trying to watch the lunar eclipse tonight, and despite initial bad luck due to a high amount of clouds, the moon eventually became clear enough that we decided to try to take a picture. However, oddly enough, when we did, we saw there was another object in the photo, which was not visible with the naked eye,
![]() We are nonplussed by this. The object we were trying to take, the moon, is the one on the right. When we took it (at around 10-11 PM Eastern time, facing somewhere between the South and the East in Miami), the moon was mostly dark except for a small fringe of light, it was cloudy, and the object on the left was not visible. Nor did we have luck trying to get it on picture again a few moments later. Does anyone have any idea what this might have been? Thank you! ^.^ |

It appears to be an internal reflection from your camera lens to me. Although I would have guessed that the out of focus object on the left was the moon and the object on the right was the reflection. What type of camera/lens were you using?

It was a Canon PowersShot A85, as shown here.

I'm pretty sure it is an internal reflection in the lens. Another possibility is that an aircraft that moved out of the scene by the time you took the next shot. Saturn and Regulus were also very visible near the eclipsed moon (see attached pics). Saturn is the yellowish colored point and Regulus is blue. The Moon would have moved relative to those objects over some period of time...not sure how long of a time you had between shots. Can you post the full image?
