A.S.I.G.N. Observatory
Greetings all!
I just thought I would join up this new forum and see who's about and get to know you. My name is Barry and I live in beautiful Canberra, Australia. 18 months or so ago, I commenced work on a home built observatory in my front yard. Since then, I have completed it and built a website, detailing all stages of construction in an effort to show others that they can do it themselves! A.S.I.G.N. Observatory A.S.I.G.N observatory website has now become a wealth of knowledge, reference, step-by-step tutorials, lots of DIY, telescope alignment, and all that Jazz. Come and have a look at it, drop me a line and ask all the questions of me you like. If I can help, I will. If I don't know, I will admit that, but I will still try to help you. Cheers! Baz.:D

Hi Barry,
I've only just joined myself and will hold you to 'ask all the questions you like';) Nice site you have, saved for a look around later. Very jealous of where you are, better than Light Pollution capital London. I have a friend living in Sydney who says that the night sky is breathe taking down under. Hopefully this forum will take off and if no one minds i will add links into my blog to this site and yours Barry. Karah |

Yes, I have also heard that our skies in the south are the envy of the north. I wonder if its a case of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Having never travelled to the northern lattitudes, I cannot say one way or the other. I see some magnificent images from there though. I used to live in Sydney a couple of years ago, but I had to drive at least 2 to 3 hours away from it to get away from the light pollution. It's getting really bad there now. I'm up for the questions challenge. Tell me about this blog of yours. What and where is it? Baz.

Hi Barry,
Can't comment either if the grass is greener as i won't fly, terrified..LOL Now added my blog address at the bottom but i will warn you that i have only just started it up and haven't a clue what i'm doing:). Not only am i learning astrophotography i'm learning how to with copmuters as well..LOL. I started it to show family and friends what i have been upto but also if anyone comes across it they can see you don't need expensive equipment to get these pics. Minus the laptop, my scope and webcam cost £190.My scope is a Skywatcher 130PM with RA drive and the webcam is a £15 cmos Quickcam so only picks up the brightest objects but it gives me loads of practice with the software side of things. All software i use is free, Registax4 and Gimp 2.2 and both are pretty easy to understand. feel free to comment, good or bad, I won't cry...Honest..LOL. Any feedback or help will be a great help as i said, haven't got a clue to what i'm doing. |
