Books on Symbology?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows of any (good) books on astronomy symbols/glyphs. What I'm really trying to figure out is how symbols like these

were invented and used. Sort of the history of astronomical symbols, if you will.

I'm doing this with a scientific mindset, so I'd be far more apt to trust a published book than a website, though if anyone can suggest either, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks.
